Here, we will cover everything you need to know about its line of Arc graphics cards. From launch dates and pricing rumors, to latest designs and specifications leaks, heres what you need to know about Intels Arc series. We got the first glimpse of Intels Arc graphics card lineup at its March 2022 Intel Arc Mobile Launch. Intel has finally launched the first laptop-based Arc GPUs to market, with desktop-based Arc graphics cards to follow in 2022 -- like the Arc A380, now shipping in the US in 2022. Intel has just shared the full specifications for its next upcoming Arc GPUs, set to be launched soon.
While until now we did not have the full specifications, Intel has shared benchmarks and other bits of info on their upcoming Arc GPUs. We do not know for sure whether Intels leaked documents really do capture the performance capabilities of the A580, but we are eager to get our hands on a notebook powered by Arc Alchemist in order to put the GPUs capabilities up against those of their Nvidia and AMD peers. The basic specifications of the Intel Arc Alchemist GPU are shaping up well, with the use of the TSMC N6 and a 400mm2 die potentially featuring a 256-bit memory interface all suggesting a card that should compete against current top-tier GPUs from AMD and Nvidia -- but lags behind top-tier models. Intel has been hyped up on the Xe graphics for around two years now, but the Intel Arc Alchemist GPU finally brings some much-needed performance and competition for Team Blue to the discrete GPU space.
During The Game Awards 2021, Intel confirmed we can expect the Arc Alchemist GPU to launch somewhere during Q1-2022, previously hinted to back in August, when Team Blues GPUs were first revealed. While the desktop cards were originally expected to start arriving in Summer 2022, Intels launch of its desktop Arc GPUs has been delayed slightly, and at this point, you should not expect to see standalone Arc GPUs for the desktop until Fall 2022. Meanwhile, Intels CEO, Pat Gelsinger, assured us during a dismal Q2/2022 earnings call that desktop Arc A5 and A7 graphics cards would start shipping in Q3 2022, so we will wait until September to see if this ends up being the case. It is widely believed Nvidia and AMD are gearing up for the end of the year launches of their next-gen graphics cards, which Intels offerings will probably be no match for, so Intels going to have to get those out of the door sooner rather than later.
The caveat to the Intel Arc GPUs incoming is that, unless pricing is just right, and Nvidia is cutting prices to try and clear inventory, they may not be even the best cheap options in the market when they eventually do come. Instead, its collection of Arc graphics cards is probably the Intel version of Nvidias Founders Edition, essentially selling Intels few branded Arc GPUs on launch along with the mainstream 3rd-party alternatives.
If its first Arc notebook GPU gives us any clues about what we could be in store for an eventual desktop release, then perhaps Intel is going to spark off another GPU arms race. I would argue that it is very early days yet to tell where Arc is going, and although Arc is certainly not in its best form, a company like Intel Graphics is not going to want to abandon a project this massive only one generation after release.
